Questions we often get

What's the minimum stay?
Minimum stay is 3 nights. We find that 3 nights is really the minimum to properly unwind and feel the rhythm of the valley. For shorter stays, please contact us — we'll see what we can do.
Can we rent the whole house?
Yes! The whole house can be rented for up to 10 guests. All 3 rooms, the shared kitchen and living room, and the full garden — exclusively yours. Contact us directly for a quote and availability.
Is breakfast really included?
Yes, breakfast is always included when you book an individual room. We prepare it fresh every morning from local products — bread from the village bakery, local eggs, homemade jam, cheese, fruit from the garden and more. When booking the whole house, you have the option to include or exclude breakfast — just let us know what works best for your group.
Are pets allowed?
We don't allow pets at Casa Val de Vida. We hope you understand!
Can we book surf lessons?
Yes! Depending on the timing, Wouter can give surf lessons as a surf coach, or help you organise lessons with the surf school we work closely with. This always depends on the conditions, availability and the level of the group.
Can we buy Art by Caro pieces during our stay?
Yes. Casa Val de Vida has little creative touches throughout the house, and some Art by Caro jackets and scarves may be available to buy. Caro also has a little shop at the house, so feel free to ask her during your stay.
How do I get there without a car?
La Cavada can be reached by bus from Santander — and also by a charming little train that winds through the hills of Cantabria. It's a scenic ride and drops you right in the village. That said, having a car makes exploring the area much easier — especially for surf, hiking and day trips. We recommend renting one at Santander or Bilbao airport if you can. We're happy to advise on the best options.
What's the difference between high and low season?
Low season is April/May and October/November — quieter, cooler, often very beautiful with green landscapes. High season is June–September — warmer, more active, peak surf and hiking conditions. Both are wonderful in different ways. Winter availability is on request.
Can we cook at Casa Val de Vida?
Guests can use the shared kitchen and living spaces with care and respect. For whole-house rentals, the kitchen is fully available.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for a 30% deposit at the time of booking to secure your dates. The remaining 70% is due 2 weeks before arrival.

— Cancellation more than 2 weeks before arrival: only the deposit is forfeited. The remaining balance is not charged.
— Cancellation less than 2 weeks before arrival: the full amount is non-refundable.

Direct bookings are always the best rate — which is also why we keep things clear and simple.
